Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said fluctuation in weather conditions can create a situation of flood or drought in the state and instructed officials to make arrangement of essential items well on time to deal with them.

"We should be mentally prepared to face both situations," Kumar said after taking feedback from disaster management and other departments about their preparedness.

He directed them to prepare well on time in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Disaster Management Department, an official statement said here.

Kumar said according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) information, good monsoon is expected.
 
Minister for Disaster Management Chandra Sekhar, Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, state police chief P K Thakur, Development Commissioner Shishir Sinha and Principal Secretary (Disaster Management) Vyasji were present in the meeting among others.

The CM interacted with District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police and directed them to store necessary items and make full-proof arrangements after meeting other departments in the districts.

He claimed his government is always prepared to meet challenges of flood or drought in any part of the state and cited example of prompt action in the floods of 2007 and Kosi floods in 2008.
