Apollo Hospitals on Wednesday distanced itself from the alleged kidney sale racket that the Delhi Police reportedly busted on Tuesday night.
The police arrested six people - three middlemen, who were working as secretarial staff for some doctors, and three donors, including two women. The hospital clarified that none of the middlemen alleged to have sold at least four kidneys in Delhi was the hospital's employee.
"While all due precautions were conducted, fake and forged documents were used for this racket with a criminal intent. The hospital has been a victim of a well-orchestrated operation to cheat patients and the hospital. We urge the police to take the strictest of action against all those involved," Apollo Hospitals said.
The police registered a case in Sarita Vihar police station as the persons were arrested from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals of the area.
"The hospital, in order to ensure compliance with the law and diligence in process, has an independent body (with external members also) for according consent for any transplant surgery," Apollo Hospitals said. "This committee goes through all documents necessary to ensure that requirements under the Act are complied with. Further, the hospital has ensured that all due process in line with the law has been followed," it added.
