While the Banking and Insurance sectors in the state were affected by the two-day strike called by the Trade Unions and its affiliates in the State, sectors like ports and transport did not had much of an impact.
In Tamil Nadu, the strike would have affected transaction of around six lakh cheques, out of which almost four lakh cheques are in Chennai, worth around Rs 4000 crore, in the first day of strike,CH Venkatachalam, general secretary, All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA).
There are around 8,000 branches of commercial banks and another 4,000 branches of co-operative banks in Tamil Nadu.

While the strike was complete in commercial banks, it was around 70-80% in co-operative banks in the State, he added. Around 35,000 workers in the general insurance sector went for the strike today, said a union leader.
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) office informed that while the strike has hit the central public sector undertakings completely, it had a partial impact on the state public sector undertakings.
However, the operations of Chennai Port was not affected by the strike. The effect of the strike on transport services were also partial.
