The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Monday launched an upgraded version of mobile application for smartphone users through which they can avail tax paying facility, register for certificates, get programme schedules, register complaints, among others.

Using this upgraded version of mobile application, residents of Rajkot can pay property tax, water tax and professional tax using credit card or debit card of any bank, get birth, death and marriage certificate apart from registering complaints.

RMC is the second civic body in the state after Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to offer services through mobile application.

Earlier, in January this year, RMC had launched mobile application in English but details could only be accessed through it. Also, there was no payment facility in it and hardly 4,000 citizens used it.

"We did not receive good response in January because of single language and limited services. So, we decided to upgrade it and included all the services in Gujarati language. We have made it more user-friendly and hope for better response this time," said Vijay Nehra, Rajkot Municipal Commissioner.

Of the 350,000 registered tax payers with the Rajkot civic body, only 6 per cent use net banking and online payment options to pay various taxes, according to RMC.

The civic body aims to increase this figure to 100,000 in the coming days and RMC believes that the upgraded version of the mobile application will aid in achieving their target.

In future, RMC plans to provide tenders details, employment information, history of property, water and professional taxes, vaccination schedule for children and utility services information through the application.

People can download this application from RMC website www.rmc.gov.in or from Google play store. Size of the application is about 3.5 MB.
