BS Reporter Bhubaneswar
The state government expects to mop up mining revenue of Rs 500 crore by the end of this month as per the target.

Till May 11, the government has already collected Rs 426 crore by way of mining revenue. Government orders for facilitating reopening of some key iron and manganese ore mines is expected to shore up collection this fiscal unlike 2014-15 when mining revenue witnessed a downtrend and consistently fell short of the targets.

Mining revenue collection at Rs 5,308 crore in last fiscal was lower than Rs 5,674 crore achieved in 2013-14 and fell short of the ambitious target of Rs 6,600 crore set by the chief secretary. The government recently issued orders for extending the lease validity of 29 mines. Of this, lease deeds have been executed for 19 mines, paving the way for their resumption and promising more revenue for the state coffers by way of mining royalty.
