The state government has submitted a memorandum to the Union home ministry, demanding an assistance of Rs 777.12 crore for restoration and rehabilitation work in 22 districts affected by the very severe cyclonic storm Hudhud.
“Out of this, the cyclone has caused extensive damage in 15 districts while seven other districts have been partially hit,” special relief commissioner Pradipta K Mohapatra said.
A central team is scheduled to visit Odisha soon to take stock of damage wreaked by the cyclonic storm in four worst hit districts — Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Gajapati.

In the power sector, Hudhud has damaged 2,155.99 km of conductor of 11 KV feeders, 239.95 km of conductor 33 KV feeders, eight power transformers 1,754 distribution transformers, 1,088.75 km of conductor LT (low tension) lines.
As many as 587 number of rural pipe water supply systems and 68 tubewells have been damaged in the rural areas due to the cyclone and consequential floods. Damage has also occurred to urban pipe water supply works and tube wells in urban areas.
According to the memorandum, the cyclone has fully damaged eight pucca houses and 883 kutch houses while partially damaging 343 pucca houses and 40,244 kutcha houses. Crops in 502 hectares of irrigated land, 1,072 hectares of non-irrigated land 20 hectares of perennial crops of farmers other than small and marginal farmers have sustained crop loss of more than 50 per cent due to the cyclone.
As per reports received from collectors of affected districts, cyclone Hudhud that made landfall near Viskhapatnam on October 12, has impacted 3.34 million people in Odisha in 9657 villages under 1,276 gram panchayats of 99 blocks i 15 districts.
