The 45-day annual Onam-Ramzan fair, being organised by the Kerala Department of Cooperation through the State Co-operative Consumers Federation (Consumerfed), is set to start on August1.
The fair, a market intervention project by the state government to help control prices of essential commodities during the festival season, will run till September15, Consumerfed president Joy Thomas and managing director, Rigi G Nair, said at a press conference today. Chief minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the fair on July 31 in Thiruvananthapuram.
The subsidised sale of groceries and items of daily use will take place at district-level fairs by co-operatives, Triveni department stores, supermarkets, mega marts, Neethi stores, Nanma stores and retail outlets run by the service co-operative groups.A total of 13 items will be sold at a discount of up to 30 per cent at 14 district fairs and140 sales festivals' at constituency level and at Ramzan and Onam fairs.
