The entire Opposition today stood united in expressing its anger and dissatisfaction over the "casual" and "insensitive" attitude of the government on the drought-like situation in the state, prompting four adjournments in the Assembly. Opposition members staged a walk out and shouted slogans against the government pushing the House into pandemonium several times during the day.
When angry members refused to budge, Speaker Dilip Walse Patil assured the Opposition on behalf of the treasury benches that Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will make a statement in the House on the drought situation tomorrow.
Earlier, as the House assembled for the day, Bala Nandgaonkar (MNS) and Nana Patole (BJP) raised objection over the "casual attitude" of the government in dealing with the drought-like situation when it failed to announce any concrete measures after winding up the marathon debate which lasted for two days, over the issue.
He alleged that the government was "not at all serious" and MNS members staged a walkout in protest. Chimanrao Patil (Sena) also accused the government of being "insensitive" towards the situation which has affected major parts of the state. Members from the treasury benches Shashikant Shinde (NCP) and Shirish Kotwal (Ind) also endorsed the views. Noisy scenes ruled the proceedings and Speaker adjourned the House for 20 minutes as the entire Opposition staged a walk out.
Deputy Speaker Vasant Purke who was in Chair after resumption again adjourned the house for 17 minutes after end of question hour. Ganpatrao Deshmukh (PWP), Oppostion Leader in Assembly Eknath Khadse (BJP), Subhash Desai (Sena) accused the government of wasting precious time of House proceedings when it has no answers.
Soon after, the third adjournment was for 15 minutes.
When the House reassembled, the Speaker announced that Chief Minister will give a detailed reply on the last day of Assembly tomorrow.
Then Sudhir Mungattiwar raised the issue of plight of cotton, soya and paddy cultivators. Since even Minister of State was not present in the House, the proceeding were adjourned for 10 minutes.
