The Raman Singh government was put in the dock for failing to expedite the memoranda of understanding (MoUs) it had inked with the corporate for drawing investment in the state.

“It seems that Chhattisgarh has become the market of MoUs,” fumed leader of opposition Ravindra Choubey in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had only signed MoUs while most of the investors had failed to turn up, he added.

Choubey said the state government had been patting its back by claiming that it had signed MoUs with 73 independent power producers to generate about 65,000 Mw of power. As far as he knows, not even half-a-dozen companies had started work on the projects, he said, adding that the government should have ulitized state’s rich resources on right tracks.

“If the MoUs signed by the state government in power sector take shape, even a bird cannot fly in the state’s skies,” the leader of opposition said. There will be a vast network of transmission line to evacuate 65,000 Mw of power in the state and one can imagine the situation there after, he added.

Choubey said if the state was self reliant in the power sector, why the state government was increasing the power tariff. “The farmers consume only 14 per cent power while domestic consumers use about 16 per cent power, but these two sections have been burdened with power hike,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition also lashed at the state government for plunging the electricity board in loss. Earlier, the board was running in huge profit. But now, it was incurring heavy loss and the state government should come clean on the issue, Choubey said.
