Prime minister Narendra Modi is likely to assess the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) scheme for cooking gas and foodgrains in his next monthly Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation (Pragati) meeting, sources say. The prime minister holds monthly meetings with central government secretaries and state chief secretaries. These meetings are called Pragati, where he is informed of the status of government schemes and pending projects. Many such meetings have taken place.

Although the date for the next meeting has not yet been decided, officials say they have been told to prepare briefs on DBT. Modi is likely to be briefed on the progress made in the scheme, including elimination of duplications and cash directly transferred into the accounts of beneficiaries, especially new accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme.
