With the first anniversary of launch of smart city mission nearing, the Pune Municipal Corporation may be hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration of the projects.
The Union Ministry of Urban Development has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Chief Minister's office to make the necessary arrangements.
In a letter the Minstry of Urban Development said: "Smart cities have identified some projects, which can be grinded quickly. It is planned to start work on these projects on 25 June, 2016--the first anniversary of the launch of smart city mission. We are planning to invite the Hon'ble PM to grace the occasion."
The letter further specifies that programme will also launch Make Your City Smart contest, inauguration of smart net portal, release of coffee table book and inauguration of Quick Win projects in Pune.
The Urban Development Department has asked the state government to organise the event and appoint a nodal officer for the purpose.
On June 25 last year, the Union government had launched the smart city mission and released its mission statement and guidelines. It also shortlisted 98 potential smart cities in August last year and through a contest, 20 winners, including Pune and Solapur, were selected.
