The Telangana government has expressed optimism the power situation in the state would improve by June next year and was confident the measures initiated in the last few months would lead to availability of additional 2,000-Mw by the end of 2015.
“We will overcome the current extreme shortage of power in the state by June next year,” said IT minister KT Rama Rao, who was speaking to mediapersons today on the sidelines of groundbreaking event of Pratt & Whitney’s aviation training facility near Shamshabad here.
Reiterating the state government's commitment to ensuring adequate power supply to both industry and agriculture, the minister said, the Cabinet had shown its intent for initiating another round of bids for awarding 500-Mw more of solar power.
He said the state had received bids from 108 companies for its plan to award rights for generating 500-Mw solar power in the first phase, and the bids for these would be finalised soon.
“We are expecting 600-Mw of thermal power by July next year that would improve to 1,000-Mw by the end of 2015,” Rao said.
The minister alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government was not cooperating with Telangana on overcoming the power problem even as the Krishnapatnam thermal power plant was ready for operating, from which Telangana is assured of its share.
“The AP government is not moving ahead on the power allocation to Telangana from the Krishnapatnam thermal plant,” he said.
