Ministry of road transport and highways had finalised the plan to build precast concrete roads in the Naxal-infested terrains in Chhattisgarh.
"The ministry has approved a plan with an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 crore to construct precast concrete roads in the insurgency hit and inaccessible terrains of Chhattisgarh," union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said while interacting with state's selected reporters through video-conferencing from Mumbai today.
The minister said the plan would be implemented soon. The new system of road construction in the Naxal would help expediting the road accessibility in the territory that rebels claimed to be their "liberated zones". Besides, it would also help overcoming the hurdles faced by the executing agencies in the area.
The biggest hurdle that the agencies had been facing is the terror unleashed by the rebels on the contractors and workers. The Naxalites had been opposing road construction in their stronghold that would facilitate the movement of security forces in the interior areas.
The rebels had been bashing up the construction workers and burning the equipment and vehicles engaged in the project.
