Protest erupts in Kathua as police stop patients' vehicles

About 200 people protested against police after vehicles with patients were intercepted by them on Jammu-Pathankot national highway

Protest erupted in Kathua district after vehicles carrying patients toward Jammu and Kathua were stopped by police in the wake of an encounter between security forces and militants today.

About 200 people protested against police after a car carrying a pregnant lady and vehicles with another patients were intercepted by them on Jammu-Pathankot national highway.

Congress minister Manohar Lal Sharma rushed to the place and pacified protesters who were later allowed to take patients to hospital.

Dy SP Abid Rashid Mir said he had strict instructions to deny anybody to move from either sides on the highway.

Over 3,000 vehicles have been stopped at various places, thereby causing inconvenience to the passengers.
 
In a similar case, police had stopped an ambulance carrying a patient in Sopore, resulting in his death in January.
