A meeting of the Punjab audit advisory board organised by the accountant-general (audit), Ajaib Singh, held in Chandigarh on Friday discussed the audit plan for 2014-15.
The meeting deliberated upon the ways to make audit more focused to serve a larger purpose of providing information for the public. The board meeting is aimed at enhancing effectiveness of the audit through discussions between the senior management of audit offices and industry professionals.
Singh chaired the meeting. Senior officers informed a compliance audit in 2014-15 was planned for 1,950 entities in the state. Compliance audit involves audit of transactions carried out by drawing and disbursing officers across the departments and audit of particular issues covering across departments.

Under performance audit, projects to be audited include ones supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development for construction of roads and bridges, the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, the public distribution system, the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan.
Under technical guidance and support, 257 urban local bodies and panchayati institutions would be covered (three municipal corporations, 12 municipal councils, four town councils and zila parishads each, 14 panchayat samities and 220 gram panchayats).
The state level audit advisory board is constituted on the lines of audit advisory board at the national level. The board is made up of 18 members. At least two meetings are held every year - one at the time of finalising audit plans and another when audit reports are in the processing stage.
