Punjab hospitals to give free treatment to acid attack, rape victims

Instructions have been issued to all hospitals, whether run by Centre, State Government, local bodies or any individual or private body

Press Trust of India Chandigarh
All hospitals in Punjab, whether public or private, will have to provide free of cost medical treatment to acid attack and rape victims, the state government said today.

The instructions have been issued to all hospitals, whether run by Centre, State Government, local bodies or any individual or private body, to immediately provide treatment besides informing the police about such incidents, an official spokesperson said.

He said that these instructions have been issued in compliance with a Supreme Court order that had focused on adopting measures for prompt treatment for care and rehabilitation of such victims.

All civil surgeons have been asked to ensure compliance of these orders in their respective districts and submit the compliance report to Principal Secretary (Health), the spokesperson said.
