Punjab Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot on Friday courted a controversy after a purported video went viral showing him threatening a government school principal in Nabha.
In the video, Dharamsot could be seen threatening a lady principal of government school with suspension in front of the media.
"Should I suspend you (Principal) immediately," Dharamsot could be heard saying in the video.
When Principal Nishi Jalota pleaded it was not her fault, the Minister said, "Then who is at fault. You are showing me this (plaque). You do not know who is the chief guest," Dharamsot is seen telling the Principal in the video.
Dharamsot allegedly got angry when he spotted his name mentioned at number three on the plaque.
The plaque mentioned the names of two donors who had provided financial assistance for the construction of the block, before the minister's name. Dharamsot was a special guest on this occasion.
However, the Minister talking to reporters later denied any such suggestion.
"I did not say this," he said when asked him about his alleged threat to the Principal. He expressed suspicions of wrongdoing in the spending of money for the construction of the said block.
"Rs 1.30 crore has been spent on building 15 rooms. I feel something wrong happened here. The number of rooms is less while considering the money spent on it," the Minister alleged.
Dharamsot holds Forests, Printing and Stationery, Welfare of SCs and BCs portfolio in Amarinder Singh led Congress government in Punjab.
