Bharatiya Janata Party National President, Amit Shah, lashed out against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a statement where he asked Gandhi the logic of supporting 'antinationalist' and 'separatist' ideologies in the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Shah's statement comes in the wake of Rahul Gandhi's visit to the University, in support of students protesting against the arrest of JNU Student Association President Kanhaiya Kumar and the police presence in the University premises. Gandhi, along with the likes of CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechuri, addressed the students on Friday condemning the NDA government for suppressing free speech and the right to protest.
The BJP president in his statement listed several 'antinationalists' slogans allegedly shouted by JNU students, and said the premier University was being being tarnished by "anti national elements supporting terrorism and sepratism". He questioned Gandhi's support for the students, saying, "By terming sedition as student revolution and the legal action taken against such elements as an attack on the freedom of expression, he has disrespected the unity of the nation."
Shah also went on to condemn Gandhi's comparison of the Modi Government with Adolf Hitler's Third Reich, saying if any government in independent India has come close to Hitler's regime, it was the 1975 Emergency enforced by Indira Gandi.
Shah said Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul should apologise for their actions.
