A local court here has ordered police to lodge an FIR against 22 people, including 16 policemen, in connection with the death of a retired CRPF jawan allegedly in police custody last month.
The order was passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate Sudama Prasad yesterday on an application moved by the CRPF jawan's wife Ruwab Bano.
On June 13, retired CRPF jawan Imtiyaz Ali died allegedly due in custody in Fakharpur area after which a deputy SP-level officer was asked to probe the incident.

The then Superintendent of Police Happy Guptan had stated that on June 3 a police team, which had gone to sort out some dispute, was allegedly attacked by Ali, his brother, son and some other persons in Madhavpur village.
She had said that an FIR was lodged against them at Fakharpur Police Station in this connection.
When a police team went to arrest Imtiyaz on June 7, he attempted to escape on a motorcycle during which he slipped and sustained head injury, she said.
She said when Imtiyaz's condition deteriorated, he was sent to Lucknow for treatment where he died during treatment.
However, Ali's family moved an application before the SP and the court alleging that half a dozen policemen, including station officer Fakharpur Brijesh Yadav, assaulted the victim in custody leaving him seriously injured.
After hearing the application of the CRPF jawan's wife the court directed to lodge a case against 22 people, including 16 policemen.
