Rio Olympics: Indian rower Dattu Bhokanal out of medal contention

The 25-year-old armyman, hailing from Maharashtra, finished with a timing of 6:59.89 behind three others

Indian rower Dattu Bhokanal, who was among the few bright spots on the opening day of the competition, on Tuesday crashed out of the medal event after finishing fourth in his men's single sculls quarterfinals here at the Rio Olympics.

The 25-year-old armyman, hailing from Maharashtra, finished with a timing of 6:59.89 behind Damir Martin of Croatia, Alan Campbell of Great Britain and Poland's Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk.

The top three have now progressed through to the A/B semi-finals, the medal contention rounds.

Bhokanal has moved to C/D semi-finals where he will compete for the rankings amongst other three quarterfinals and his own on August 10.
