Every 3.5 minutes, a person died in a road accident in India last year, according to a report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Of the total number of people killed in accidents, persons in the age group of 18-35 constituted 46.3 per cent. Thirteen states accounted for 86 per cent of the total road accidents and a similar number accounted for 84 per cent of fatalities.
