Russia will achieve its goals in Ukraine, Putin tells Macron

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that the goals of Russia's operation in Ukraine - its demilitarisation and neutral status - will be achieved in any case, the Kremlin said.
 
Putin said that any attempts by Kyiv to delay negotiations would result in Moscow adding more items to its list of demands.

IKEA temporarily closes stores in Russia, warns of higher prices

IKEA, the world's biggest furniture brand, is closing its stores in Russia and pausing all sourcing in the country and ally Belarus, joining the wave of Western firms curbing business with Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

The news, announced on Thursday, came as IKEA store owner Ingka Group's retail manager told Reuters it now expected to raise prices by an average of 12% this fiscal year, up from 9% previously, amid soaring raw material costs and supply chain disruptions.
 
While a raft of international companies have already halted operations in Russia due to the war and consequent sanctions against the country, IKEA is one of the first to also halt business with Belarus.

US President Joe Biden will speak with the leaders of Australia, India and Japan later on Thursday to discuss the war in Ukraine, the White House said in a statement.
 
The so-called Quad leaders, which includes Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, will speak at 9 a.m. (1300 GMT) "to discuss the war against Ukraine and its implications for the Indo-Pacific," it said.

Volkswagen says to halt activities in Russia until further notice

Volkswagen is stopping its business in Russia because of the conflict in Ukraine, the company said on Thursday.
 
Production at Volkswagen's Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod sites will be suspended until further notice, and vehicle exports to Russia will be stopped with immediate effect, the company said.
 
"With the extensive interruption of business activities in Russia, the group management board is drawing the consequences from the overall situation, which is characterised by strong uncertainty," Volkswagen said.

Russia's Lavrov says no doubt that solution to Ukraine crisis will be found

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov told Russian state television on Thursday he had no doubt that a solution to the Ukrainian crisis will be found, but Russia's dialogue with the West needs to be based on mutual respect.
 
Lavrov reiterated that Moscow could not tolerate military threat from Ukraine which he said was taking orders from Washington.
