The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre and Uttarakhand government on a PIL seeking fair distribution of aid and compensation to people affected in natural disaster in the state.

A bench of justices A K Patnaik and J S Khehar sought response from the governments and tagged the PIL with other similar petitions pending in the apex court.

The petition was filed by one Jai Prakash Bisht alleging that people, who lost their relatives, are not being compensated by the government and they continue to suffer on account of disaster.

"The dependent family members of the deceased are not getting any aid of any nature like food, clothing, medicine and shelter. They are forced to live in open and the ration which is being distributed is not eatable," the petition said.

The bench, after a brief hearing, agreed to hear the petition and listed it along with other similar petitions filed in the apex court.
