The three-time MLA from Singur played a crucial role in Mamata Banerjee's Singur movement against the Tata Motor’s proposed Nano factory, even gave a hint about reconsidering his association with TMC

The recent cabinet reshuffle by chief minister Mamata Banerjee has sparked off a widespread dissent in Trinamool Congress, with some of the leaders, including Singur MLA and outgoing Agriculture minister Rabindranath Bhattacharya, turning rebels.

Bhattacharya has even refused to accept the new responsibility as the minister for Department of Programme Implementation and Statistics. “I am not willing to take charge of the new department and will not join.”

The three-time MLA from Singur played a crucial role in Mamata Banerjee's Singur movement against the Tata Motor’s proposed Nano factory, even gave a hint about reconsidering his association with TMC.

“I am still the Trinamool MLA of Singur. A time comes in everybody’s life when a person needs to take decision on some issues. I will think over these issues seriously and will see how things go before taking the final call,” he said.

Making it worse for Mamata Banerjee-led government, Bhattacharya is not alone. Rabiranjan Chatterjee, who was earlier in charge of both Department of Technical Education and Department of Science and Technology, but has been stripped off the latter in the recent reshuffle has also come out in public to critcise the chief minister.

“She did not consult me. I worked hard to rejuvenate Technical Education,” he said. Although he did not respond to a query whether, he will quit the cabinet, sources suggest, Chatterjee today was on his way to Writers Building to hand over his resignation to chief minister, although apparently he was dissuaded in the last minute.

Another TMC MLA Shyamal Mondal, who has been dropped from the cabinet, too questioned the decision. Mondal, who represents the Canning (West) assembly seat, described the decision as “shocking.”
