The political establishment has expressed optimism that the Centre's committed approach and the smart city plan would help Visakhapatnam, which had been affected by the Cyclone Hudhud, recover at the earliest.
"In the aftermath of devastation caused by Hudhud, the Prime Minister and all Union ministries were putting emphasis on Vizag's development, which would help the city recover in the shortest time," said K Haribabu, member of Parliament from Vizag and BJP state president. He expressed confidence that the city would attract fresh investments from all sectors of the economy.
The funds earmarked for bringing back normalcy, mostly from the public sector undertakings and the private sector industrial units, would create fresh jobs and taxes to the state exchequer, Haribabu said. Moreover, the Centre's smart city development plan would essentially create a world-class health, education, water, sanitation, electricity roads and other facilities through a scientific approach, he noted.
