Looks like Mulayam Singh is no longer in control over what should be the party line on crucial political issues. On a day when the Samajwadi party joined hands with its bitter rival, BSP to defend Sonia Gandhi against the BJP attack on the Robert Vadra issue, senior party leader, Azam Khan took a dig at the Congress President. Khan said that no probe should be ordered against Vadra as they all enjoy ‘privilege’.

"Sonia Gandhi ke damad ki jaanch honi bhi nahi chahiye, yeh unka privilege hai(there should be no inquiry against son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi as, after all, they all enjoy privilege), Khan, a minister in UP cabinet, said here.

Ironically, this statement came hours after the party came out in strong support questioning why Sonia Gandhi should be held responsible for the alleged wrongdoings of her son-in-law, Robert Vadra.

SP leader Naresh Aggarwal said the BJP was "politicizing" the issue which was a state matter and should be handled at that level only.

"I don't agree with the BJP's slogan of 'sarkari damaad'. We are not in agreement with the politicization of the issue and dragging Sonia Gandhi in to the issue. I do not see how she can be held responsible for the whole issue," he said.

This is not the first time Azam khan has hit out against Sonia Gandhi. A few days back, Azam had criticized Gandhi over writing to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in support of suspended IAS officer, Durga Shakti Nagpal.

Vadra has been facing heat over alleged controversial land deals in Haryana and BJP has decided to step up the ante on the issue in Parliament. While the BJP has demanded a Supreme court monitored investigation into the alleged land deals of Vadra in Haryana, the congress has made it clear that they will not allow a discussion on the issue in Parliament.
