The Samajwadi Party on Thursday postponed its legislature party meeting to elect its chief ministerial candidate to Friday. As there is still confusion over the choice of chief minister, the meeting, scheduled for this evening after the party’s parliamentary board meeting, was deferred to buy time to decide on the issue. According to sources, several MLAs, especially young ones, proposed Akhilesh Yadav’s name for the top post at the parliamentary board meeting. They feel he would lead the party to victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Even senior party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has been supportive of this idea.
However, there is a talk that some old-timers and senior leaders may like Mulayam Singh Yadav becoming the chief minister due to their seasoned rapport with the aging socialist leader.
