Former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) N Srinivasan was sacked from the post of International Cricket Council chairman, after BCCI decided to recall him and nominate president Shashank Manohar as the chief of the world body. The decision was taken at the cricket governing body’s 86th annual general meeting (AGM) held here on Monday.
This effectively ends the India Cements managing director’s hold over Indian cricket. Earlier this year, he was forbidden from contesting the BCCI elections after the R M Lodha committee, appointed by the Supreme Court, found him in conflict of interest regarding the 2013 match fixing and betting scandal, where his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was held guilty of betting. He now holds only the post of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
India Cements-owned Chennai Super Kings, which has been the home of Team India captain M S Dhoni in the Indian Premier League since the first season, has been suspended for two years following the recommendation of the Lodha Committee.

“Shashank Manohar will be the BCCI representative at the ICC. In his absence, Sharad Pawar will represent BCCI as an alternate,” says the media advisory on the BCCI website. Manohar started his term at the BCCI on October 4 following the demise of then president Jagmohan Dalmiya.
Apart from sacking Srinivasan as the BCCI representative in the ICC, the governing body for cricket in India also approved the BCCI rules on conflict of interest and announced the appointment of former team India captain Sourav Ganguly as the head of BCCI’s technical committee. Ganguly replaces Anil Kumble for this post. Ganguly will also form a part of the IPL governing council along with Rajeev Shukla (chairman), Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ajay Shirke (former BCCI treasurer), and M P Pandove.
