The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs 50 crore for immediate restoration of road network damaged in recent floods.
A state announcement said Rs 12 crore each has been allocated to Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Cuddalore districts while Chennai has got Rs 6 crore. Apart from that Rs 8 crore has been given to eight other districts. The state through a GO has stipulated carrying out of immediate restoration works on damaged roads.
Authorities said temporary restoration road work will be undertaken on war-footing and completed within 30 days. The four major damaged bridges (Tiruttani Nagalapuram, Kanagammachathiram - Thakkolam, Korattur Thinnanur Periyapalayam and Kancheepuram Vandawasi Road) within 45 days.
Currently, repair works of roads damaged in floods are being carried out in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Cuddalore districts and so for 570 km have temporarily been restored. A team of 41 of assistant engineers, 69 road inspectors and 850 gang mazdoors apart from regular staff of highways department undertook the task.
