Tamil Nadu to distribute 5.36 lakh laptops this year

The Government of Tamil Nadu is planning to distribute 5.36 lakh laptops to the students during 2016-17 under its ongoing free laptop scheme for the students, said State Minister for Information Technology, M Manikandan.

The AIADMK government, which has been in power from 2011, in its previous tenure has supplied over 32 lakh laptops to the students, he said, while speaking at the international conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

During the Global Investors' Meet (GIM) held last year, around 17 investments were committed in the IT sector, with a total invsetment of Rs 10,950 crore. The government has also started around 10,486 e-seva centres, which had transactions worth  around Rs 1.96 crore till July 31, 2016, he added.
