BJP needs to tell Gujarat Chief minister Narendra Modi that the present is an Assembly election and not a Central election, senior state Congress leaders said on Thursday, commenting on the former's election speeches.
They also warned the senior BJP leader to mind his language during his various speeches. Modi had recently launched array of verbal attacks on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his month-long Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra across Gujarat as part of his election campaign.
"He (Modi) goes on talking about Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi during his speeches. The day is not far when he would also drag (Barak) Obama, (Mitt) Romney and (Vladimir) Putin in his election speeches. Modi needs to under stand that this is a state election and not for forming government at the Centre," former chief minister of Gujarat Shankarsinh Vaghela said.
Vaghela said that Modi should raise the issues, which he was raising now, in 2014 during the Lok Sabha elections.
Ridiculing Modi for his choice of issues and the attack on Sonia and Rahul, Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia said, "Modi was speaking like a person bitten by a rabies infected dog."
"He is spitting venom in his speeches which in contradictory to Swami Vivekananda's principles and line of thought. It is not even suitable for Gujarat's own tradition," Modhwadia said.
