Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI) and the Andhra Pradesh government have joined hands to prepare an action plan, outlining energy conservation and measures to reduce carbon footprint in the state.

As per the understanding, TERI will study best practices in energy conservation and environment-friendly practices from various states and share them with Andhra Pradesh.

In this connection, TERI director RK Pachauri, who called on the chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday, briefed the latter on the strategies to achieve energy conservation and the state's adherence to environmental norms.

Pachauri also discussed with the chief minister on how the new capital could be developed into an ecofriendly city. He also raised the need to strengthen the disaster management apparatus to ensure better rescue and relief operations.

Meanwhile, on Friday, he met with the state chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao, as part of consultations for initiating the action plan, the government release stated.

Pachauri has been serving as the chairperson of the Inter governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 2002, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 during his tenure.
