Three dead in BHEL hospital collapse

The Kasturba Hospital building is 40 years old

Three people are feared dead after a women's ward of the Kasturba Hospital, in the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) township, collapsed this evening.

According to sources, two women are critically injured, and at least 20, including patients and children, are reported to have been trapped in the debris. The Kasturba Hospital building is 40 years old. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced financial assistance of Rs 2,00,000 to the relatives of each of the dead and Rs 50,000 to each of the injured.

BHEL officials were not available for comment.

"We have rescued 24 people," City Superintendent of Police A P Singh said.
 
The incident took place around 5.50 pm. Rescue operations were going on till late in the evening.
