The moment is right to focus on defence and aerospace sectors. The public-private participation mode is the most ideal one to achieve this, said S G K Kishore, chief executive officer of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd.
Participating in a panel discussion on ‘Changes: Implications and Opportunities’ at Defence and Aerosupply India conference in Hyderabad on Friday, he said the Telangana government had identified aerospace and defence as one of the most significant industries in Hyderabad.
“However, considering the industry value chain, the industry requires a cluster approach and a set of critical success factors, including ready-to-move-in land availability, approvals and clearances, and skills development, to succeed and sustain,” he said.
According to K Pradeep Chandra, special chief secretary to the Telangana government and commissioner for industrial promotions and mines, the state government was willing to partner businesses and facilitate proposals going beyond the stereotype single-window model.
“We have identified between 250,000 acre and 300,000 acre across 7,000 locations in the 10 districts of Telangana for industrial activities. This land will be handed over to Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation shortly,” he said.
He added 10 per cent of the water from the proposed Telangana State Drinking Water Grid would be earmarked for industrial activities in the state.
In his keynote address, Avinash Chander, secretary to the department of defence research and development, and director-general, DRDO, said DRDO was looking to set up Military Industrial Complexes at various locations across India to serve as a reliable logistics and supply chain mechanism for its own design, R&D and production needs.
