Delhi Metro on Wednesday began trial run for the ITO-Kashmere Gate section on the Violet Line.
The 5.17-km-long stretch will be an extension of the current Escort Mujesar-ITO corridor.
The entirely underground section will comprise of four stations -- Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Lal Quila and Kashmere Gate.
According to Delhi Metro, the Kashmere Gate station will become its first interchange facility to provide interconnectivity between three corridors: Violet, Red and Yellow lines.
During the trial run, the interaction of the train with physical infringements (civil structure) will be checked to ensure that there is no blockage during the movement.

"In addition, the response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored," the Metro said.
The section, also called the Heritage Line, passes through various historical landmarks of Old Delhi such as Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Red Fort.
After commissioning of this section, the entire 9.37-km-long Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate section will be operational and become a part of the 43.40-km-long Escorts Mujesar-Kashmere Gate Violet Line corridor.
