Tumult in Parliament, both Houses stalled

Concern over child's rape, leakage of JPC report on telecom and coal scam take a toll

BS Reporter New Delhi
Proceedings in both Houses of Parliament were stalled on Monday by the Opposition on a range of issues, ranging from the leakage of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on telecom, the coal scam and recent incidents of atrocities against women and children.

Both, Question Hour and Zero Hour, were disrupted repeatedly in both Houses throughout the morning.

In the Rajya Sabha, eight notices were moved for suspension of Question Hour and Chairman Hamid Ansari accepted the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam notice on the role of the CBI in the Coalgate scam.

Similar noisy scenes were witnessed in the Lok Sabha. The Trinamool Congress disrupted proceedings, demanding action against Students Federation of India leaders who had heckled West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Industries Minister Amit Mitra here a fortnight ago.

Attack on Shinde
The Opposition attacked Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde over his handling of the rape case of a five-year-old girl in the national capital and demanded his resignation. Earlier in the day, Shinde laid down a statement on the issue.
