Twitter, Modi celebrate Kalam's birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to late President A P J Abdul Kalam on his 84th birth anniversary.

Modi attended the birth anniversary celebrations of Kalam at the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) headquarters, where he unveiled Kalam’s bust. While Sitanshu Kar, spokesperson of Ministry of Defence has posted a picture of Narendra Modi unveiling his bust on twitter. 
Bharat Ratna awardee Abdul Kalam, who passed away on July 27 this year, was the 11th President of India (2002 to 2007). Before becoming the President, Abdul Kalam had spent four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at DRDO and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
 

He was involved in India’s civilian space programme and military missile development efforts, earning him the title of ‘Missile man’. PMO India tweeted Modi’s statement on young scientists, saying: “Our young scientists should get inspired by the way shown by Dr Kalam."

Modi also referred to Kalam as a ‘rashtraratna’ even before he became a ‘rashtrapati.’ Commenting on his memories of Kalam during his Ahmedabad days, Modi’s office tweeted, “I remember Dr Kalam was very fond of Ahmedabad as he was posted there early on during his career, working with Dr Vikram Sarabhai.”

Modi tweeted, “Today, we salute Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and celebrate his monumental achievements, as a scientist, scholar & the President of India. We fondly remember his passion for teaching & education. Dr. Kalam truly ignited young minds with the power to think and innovate. Dr. Kalam is not with us today but his thoughts, ideals and vision for India live on forever.”
Among others in the government, former Olympic silver medallist and now Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore tweeted: “remembering people’s president — on his birth anniversary”, along with Dr Kalam’s picture.

Also, Sudarsan Pattnaik, the globally renowned sand artist from Odisha, paid his tribute to Kalam by tweeting: “Tribute to #PeoplesPresident, #BharatRatna Dr. #APJAbdulKalam on his 84th Birth Anniversary.” He also tweeted the picture of his sand art at Puri beach.


Among other famous personalities in the list to pay their tribute to Abdul Kalam are Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Nitish tweeted: "Humble tributes to APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary. May his legacy & thoughts continue to guide & inspire all of us."


While Kejriwal tweeted: "Dr Kalam's birth anniversary. He was and will always remain an inspiration for us."
