Cabinet Reshuffle LIVE: Ashwini Vaishnav to be new Union Railways minister

Ashwini Vaishnav, who was inducted into the Union Cabinet on Wednesday evening, will be the new Union Minister of Railways. He will also head the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
 
Vaishnaw, who has made a straight entry into the Union Cabinet without any stint as Minister of State, is a former IAS officer holding degrees from IIT Kanpur and Wharton Business School, and a BJP Rajya Sabha member from Odisha since 2019.

Cabinet Reshuffle LIVE: Piyush Goyal loses Railways, gets textiles

Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal has been given the charge of Ministry of Textiles in the big cabinet reshuffle and expansion by the Narendra Modi government on Wednesday.
 
While Goyal lost the Railways ministry portfolio to technocrat Ashwini Vaishnaw, he has retained the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Smriti Irani was earlier the textiles minister.

Cabinet Reshuffle LIVE: Amit Shah to head new Ministry of Co-operation along with Home Affairs

Amit Shah, the number two in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, will now also handle the newly-set up Ministry of Cooperation along with his current Home Affairs portfolio. The additional charge was made known today as part of the massive reshuffle of ministries that saw several old timers making way for new faces.
 
The setting up of the Ministry of Cooperation was announced yesterday, aimed at providing more heft to the cooperative movement in the country. "Sahkar se samriddhi" (Prosperity from cooperation) is its vision statement, according to a release from the Cabinet Secretariat released yesterday.
 
"This ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country. It will help deepen co-operatives as a true people-based movement reaching up to the grassroots," it said.

Anurag Thakur, the BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur who was sworn-in today as a cabinet minister, has been entrusted with two important portfolios - Information and Broadcasting, and Sports. Thakur, 46, was previously the Minister of State for Finance. He is among six ministers who have been promoted to cabinet.
