Cabinet reshuffle LIVE updates: 43 ministers, new and old, to take oath, says report

As many as 43 new members are all set to be sworn in this evening in Prime Minister Modi's new cabinet which will be one of the most inclusive with record representation of SC, ST members.

 

It is learnt from reliable sources that post-expansion, there will be 12 members from the SC community, including two in the cabinet; eight members will be from Scheduled tribes in the council of ministers out of which three will be in the cabinet.

 

After cabinet expansion, the Modi government is expected to have 27 OBC leaders out of which five will be in the cabinet. Read here

Cabinet reshuffle Latest: MoS Women and Child Development Debasree Chauduri resigns

Ahead of the expected rejig of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Council of Ministers, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Ministry Debasree Chaudhuri resigned from the Union Cabinet on Wednesday.

 

Chaudhuri submitted her resignation this morning, one of her close aides said.

 

Chaudhuri was elected to the Lok Sabha from West Bengal's Raiganj constituency in the 2019 general elections. (PTI)

Cabinet expansion: Ministerial probables meet PM Modi

Ahead of the Union Cabinet expansion on Wednesday evening, ministerial probables met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.

 

Those meeting Modi included BJP's Narayan Rane, Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ajay Bhatt, Bhupender Yadav, Shobha Karandlaje, Sunita Duggal, Meenakshi Lekhi, Bharati Pawar, Shantanu Thakur and Kapil Patil, JD(U)'s R C P Singh, LJP's Pashupati Paras and Apna Dal's Anupriya Patel.

 

Some ministers of state, including G Kishan Reddy, Parshottam Rupala and Anurag Thakur, were also there, and they may be elevated, sources said.
