The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday transfered Faizabad sub-district magistrate for releasing detained VHP activists who were arrested for violating prohibitory orders and disturbing communal harmony and peace.

The government transfered Ram Sahay Yadav, who was posted as SDM Sadar in Faizabad district, for not taking senior officers in confidence and releasing 15 VHP activists on August 25, the first day of its yatra, district administration officials said.

While Faizabad district magistrate Vipin Kumar Dwivedi and SSP K B Singh were busy controlling law and order in Ayodhya, the police produced 15 VHP activists who were charged of violating prohibitory orders, before the SDM with a plea for judicial custody, but Yadav turned down the plea and released them, officials said.

Reacting over the matter, Samajwadi Party MLA from Ayodhya-Faizabad and state minister Tej Narain Pandey said, "Postings and transfers of officers are decided by the Chief Minister, I have nothing to comment over it."

According to district administration sources, Yadav's transfer is the part of a routine procedure.
