The Samajwadi Party was leading in both the Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur and Phulpur on Wednesday, a poll official said.

In Gorakhpur, the former parliamentary constituency of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the SP's Pravin Nishad managed 44,979 votes against BJP's Upendra Dutt Shukla's 43,456 votes around 11 am.

In Phulpur too, the SP's Nagendra Patel was cruising ahead of his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party rival Kaushlendra Singh Patel, the poll official said.

After counting picked up pace at around 10 am, Kaushlendra Singh Patel lost his initial lead to Nagendra Patel by over 1,500 votes.

After three rounds, Nagendra Patel was at 7,600 votes against Kaushlendra Singh Patel's 6,163 votes.

Media banned in Gorakhpur

In the home turf of Yogi Adityanath, the media has been banned from reporting the latest updates. Though the exact reason of the move is not mentioned, media reports say this came at a time when Samajwadi Party started to close the gap with its rival BJP and is currently leading in Gorakhpur bypoll results 2018.

Bihar bypoll results 2018: The BJP is leading in the Araria Lok Sabha seat and Bhabua Assembly constituency, while the RJD was leading in the Jehanabad Assembly seat in Bihar bypolls.

After two rounds of counting, Pradeep Kumar Singh of the saffron party was leading by 2,321 votes in the Araria seat, EC officials said.

Rinky Rani Pandey of the BJP was leading by 2,729 votes in the Bhabua Assembly constituency.

RJD's Suday Yadav was leading by around 1,200 votes in the Jehanabad Assembly seat, according to the early trends.
