Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister on by-poll results 2018: Exuding confidence that the BJP would sweep the ongoing Lok Sabha bypolls in the state, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya yesterday said the 2014 Lok Sabha record would be repeated by the saffron party.
 

 

"I am confident that on March 14, the record which was made in Phulpur in 2014 (Lok Sabha general elections) will be repeated, and our candidate Kaushalendra Patel will emerge victorious," he told reporters after casting his vote for Phulpur parliamentary constituency along with his family members.

Phulpur by-poll results 2018: The Phulpur seat has 793 polling centres and 2,059 polling stations. A total of 19.63 lakh voters decided the fate of 22 candidates.

 

The BJP has fielded Kaushlendra Singh Patel against Nagendra Singh Patel of the SP. The BSP, here too, is supporting the SP candidate. The Congress has fielded Manish Mishra.

Gorakhpur by-poll results 2018: BJP's Upendra Dutt Shukla is in the fray in Gorakhpur, represented by Adityanath since 1998. Gorakhpur has 970 polling centres and 2,141 polling stations. There are 19.49 lakh eligible voters, including over 8 lakh women.
 

 

The Samajwadi Party has fielded Praveen Nishad in Gorakhpur. The Bahujan Samaj Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal have extended support to the SP candidate.
 

 

The Congress is fighting on its own and has named Surahita Kareem as its candidate.

Speaking at 'Aap Ki Adalat' television programme, Yogi Adityanath said that the 'electoral understanding' struck by arch-rivals BSP-SP was of no consequence in the parliamentary by-elections of Gorakhpur bypolls and Phulpur bypolls.
 

 

"UP has suffered their divisive agenda, dynastic politics and brazen promotion of self and families and after the rout of the red flag in Tripura, the BJP will ensure that the red cap (SP's brand) also drowns in the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his development- oriented and progressive politics," he said.
 

 

He even said it would have been better if the BSP-SP and Congress would have contested the bypolls together, claiming "Bua (Mayawati) and the two Babuas (Rahul and Akhilesh Yadav) would have made things easier for us".
 

 

He also trashed allegations of his predecessor (Akhilesh Yadav) that no development has taken place under him and he was only inaugurating the projects of the previous SP government.
