Uttarakhand has decided to boost milk production by setting up milk plants in all the 13 districts of the state.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat said there was vast potential for the development of dairy farming as a full-fledged industry in the state. A milk development council would be set up to promote production, he said. Rawat was speaking at a meeting with representatives of milk federations here on Wednesday.
Rawat asked officials to launch a massive drive in the state to promote milk production and link trade with self-employment. Members of milk committees could be given an "encouragement allowance" to achieve this goal, he said. He asked officials to conduct an awareness drive in the rural areas to encourage people for milk production.
