A film policy will be formulated in Uttarakhand to promote the film industry, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said.

The local film industry will be given special incentives in the new policy, Rawat said while interacting with a group of artists from the state here on Wednesday.

Rawat also asked Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar to take steps in preparing the new film policy which should safeguard the interests of the local artists.

"The local culture, tourism and art can be promoted through films," he said. "We have some of the most beautiful locales in the state which can be used by the film industry for the shooting," Rawat said.

Previous governments have also announced that film policies would be made but no action was taken in this regard. "Most of the chief ministers make announcements, but on the ground no policy takes place," said an TV actor.

Former chief minister N D Tiwari also wanted Dehradun to be developed as Dollywood on the lines of Bollywood. Tiwari had also talked to some film personalities at that time in this regard. But he failed to realize this dream.
