Victoria eyes trade tie-ups with India

Victoria state of Australia is looking at trade opportunities with India in the information technology and communication space, according to Godron Rich-Phillips, minister for technology and aviation industry, Government of Victoria.

According to him, the state's ICT industry generates $30 billion (Australian dollar) in revenue and $3 billion in exports annually. Victoria has seen many investments from India companies across verticals including Wipro, Mahindra, Infotech and Infosys.

"Along with ICT, we are also looking at 10 sectors for the trade tie-ups, including aviation, infrastructure and pharma, etc," he said.

The state has also initiated a "Trade Engagement Program India' which is a Victorian government initiative to help businesses and companies from the state in finding business opportunities in India.
 
Rich-Phillips is on trade visit to India, along with around 200 business delegates from across 160 companies from Victoria increase its trade tie-ups with India.

A Victoria-based IT company, We-do-IT, opened its first office in India here on Friday. We-do-IT employs 13 people here and plans to expand its headcount to 60 in a year's time. Globally, it employs 100 people.
