* The NDRF team helped in neutralising the leak and helped in evacuation from the area. Door to door search was conducted by NDRF and 250 families were evacuated from the proximity area. The teams were suited and went into the premises and recovered people including women and children. More than 500 persons were evacuated from the area. The teams will stay back until the situation is under control.
* The death toll stands at 9, some people are critical and pothers have been given required treatment. NDRF will assist the local administration until it is required. An expert team will fly from Pune, the specialised team Chemical, Biological, Radiological team will be deployed. The leakage situation is under control and the silos are down to minimal.

Central govt is mobilizing the CBRN team from Pune: NDMA
* The gas is called styrine, it's toxic and injurious to human health. So far we know that 9 people have lost their lives and 1000 people have been exposed and have been evacuated.
* PM Modi took stock of the situation on the ground and the response. The response requires expertise on chemical sides, evacuation. After that, the National Crisis Management Committee met and have designed steps to contain the leak.
* The NDRF team has a minimum capacity to deal with chemical incidents and CBRN teams have been deployed. Central govt is mobilizing the CBRN team from Pune, which will fly to the incident site and provide technical support.
* We are also mobilizing a specialized technical support to assist healthcare workers.

Gas leak at Vizag plant under control: LG Chem
The gas leak at the Visakhapatnam polymers plant that killed at least eight people is now under control, the units' South Korean parent firm LG Chem said on Thursday. LG Chem, which operates the plant, said it is cooperating with Indian authorities to help residents and employees. "The gas leakage is now under control, but the leaked gas can cause nausea and dizziness, so we are investing every effort to ensure proper treatment is provided swiftly," LG Chem said in a statement. The firm is looking into what caused the leak of styrene monomer gas, which is used for producing plastic.

High level experts team to leave for Vizag today
Principal Secretary to PM Dr. PK Mishra held a high-level review meeting with Cabinet Secy, Home Secy , NDMA, NDRF, Director AIIMS and medical experts. He directed to send team of experts to Visakhapatnam and also measures for relief, rescue and short term as well as long term medical impact. Detailed press briefing on it to be held at National Media Centre in Delhi at 2.15 pm today.

I thought I'll die: Vizag gas leak survivor
"I thought I would die. I don't know how I survived." This was how a gas leak survivor in Visakhapatnam shared her experience.
"Nobody knew what was happening and all were running to save themselves," said the woman undergoing treatment at King George Hospital (KGH), where most of the gas victims were brought for treatment.
She said she and her children woke up as they felt difficulty in breathing. "There was utter confusion. We saw people running and we too rushed out," said the woman, who got separated from her two children in the melee.

Vizag gas leak: What is the cause of the gas leak?
The leak is suspected to have been from large tanks left unattended because of the nationwide lockdown to fight Covid-19, as per news reports. “Our initial information is that workers were checking a gas storage tank when it started leaking. Only a thorough investigation will reveal what exactly happened,” Industries Minister M Goutham Reddy said.
