NASA names Mars rover touchdown site after Octavia Butler
NASA has named the landing site of its Perseverance Mars rover after the science fiction author Octavia Butler. So the location of the rover's touchdown site is now being called "Octavia E. Butler Landing," the US space agency said last week. The rover was launched on July 30 last year from the Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in the US state of Florida. It reached Mars on February 18 after a 203-day journey.
Number of road accidents in Delhi dropped in 2020: Delhi Police
Accidents and fatalities on the streets of the national capital saw a significant decrease in 2020 due to the nation-wide lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic, compared to the previous year 2019. According to Taj Hassan, Special Commissioner Police, Traffic, Delhi Police there was a 26 per cent drop in the number of accidents. A total of 5,610 accidents, including 1,433 fatal ones, were reported in 2019, while 4,178, including 1,163 fatal accidents were reported in 2020. There was an 18 per cent decrease in deaths and 29 per cent decrease in injured due to road accidents. In 2019, 5,152 injuries and 1,463 deaths were reported, while in 2020, 3,662 injuries and 1,196 deaths were reported.
BJP's central observers submit report to party high command over Uttarakhand crisis
BJP general secretary in-charge of Uttarakhand Dushyant Kumar Gautam and Raman Singh, who was appointed to look after the current crisis within the party's state unit, has submitted its report to the BJP's high command, said sources.
Last week, BJP Uttarakhand held an emergency core group meeting which was attended by observer Raman Singh, Dushyant Gautam, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Ajay Bhatt, Naresh Bansal, Mala Rajya Laxmi and others.
There are speculations about the leadership change in Uttarakhand as several ministers and around twenty MLAs are against the working style of Rawat.
BJP chalks out strategies to target Odisha govt
The BJP has chalked out strategies to attack the Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha over issues ranging from inter-state border disputes with Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal to crimes against women and political violence. Odisha's principal opposition party, during its state executive meeting on Sunday, called upon its members to put in additional efforts to reach out to the people, who have given eight Lok Sabha seats and 22 assembly constituencies to the BJP in the 2019 elections. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who along with another central minister Pratap Sarangi attended the meeting, called upon the cadre to highlight the achievements of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
Fuel price, farmers' movement will impact Assembly polls: Digvijaya Singh
Congress leader Digvijaya Singh during his Indore visit on Sunday said that the fuel price hike and the farmers' movement will have an impact on the upcoming Assembly elections five states. "Congress is contesting elections according to its strategy and we hope that good results will come. The way the prices of petrol, diesel cooking gas have increased and the way the farmers' movement has gone, this will definitely have an impact," said Singh. "Congress is ready for the civic elections in Madhya Pradesh and Kamal Nath has sent observers everywhere," he added.
Citing Assembly polls, TMC urges adjournment of Parliament's Budget Session
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday urged for the adjournment of the ongoing Parliament session, in light of the Assembly elections taking place in five states across the country. Trinamool Congress (TMC) Members of Parliament (MP) Derek O'Brien and Sudip Bandyopadhyay urged Chairman Vice President Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament. O'Brien also cited two other precedents where the request was entertained.
MK Stalin announces DMK's vision for Tamil Nadu in 10 years
Ahead of Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin on Sunday announced the key points of his party's vision if it comes to power in the state. Addressing party workers and supporters at a rally in Trichy, Stalin said his party's seven resolutions for the state's governance will make Tamil Nadu a leading state over the next 10 years. "Every ration cardholder housewife will get Rs 1,000 per month if DMK comes into power in Tamil Nadu. We will work on water management and provide drinking water for all. Wastage of water into the sea will be reduced to 15 per cent from the present 50 per cent," he said.
