The Calcutta High Court today directed West Bengal chief secretary and home secretary to submit affidavits stating why its order of July 10 on force deployment for the panchayat elections was not complied with by the West Bengal government.

The State Election Commission's counsel told the bench of Justice Sanjib Banerjee that it did not get details of force deployment during the pre-poll period from the government as directed by the court. Advocate General Bimal Chatterjee told Justice Banerjee that it had earlier provided SEC with details of force deployment on poll days as per an earlier direction of July 4 by the court.
