Yeddyurappa, sons told to appear before CBI court on Mar 23

This, in connection with the illegal mining kickback case

A CBI court here today directed former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his two sons to appear before it on March 23 in connection with the illegal mining kickback case.

Allowing their applications seeking exemption from personal appearance, Principal Judge of CBI court D A Venkat Sudarshan directed Yeddyurappa and his two sons B Y Vijayendra and B Y Raghavendra to appear before it without fail that day and posted the case to that date.

urappa's son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar and former minister Krishnaiah Setty, were present in the court.

Special Public Prosecutor Sudarshan opposed the exemption applications and sought time to clarify and furnish copies of certain statements sought by the accused.

 

On December 10, the court had granted bail to all 13 accused, including Yeddyurappa and his sons while imposing certain conditions, including directing them to furnish a personal bond of Rs two lakh each and surety of like sum.

The court had also directed them to regularly appear before it on each date of hearing, 'not tamper' with prosecution witnesses, surrender their passports and not to leave the country without its prior permission. If they do not have a passport, they should submit an affidavit in this regard on the next day of hearing, it said.

On October 16, CBI had filed a charge sheet before a special CBI court against Yeddyurappa, his two sons, son-in-law, former minister Krishnaiah Setty, CEO and senior Vice President of a Bellary based private steel company,a Shimoga based Trust and five Bellary based private companies for alleged abuse of of official position and corruption.

CBI had registered a case against Yeddyurappa and others pursuant to the Apex Court direction on May 11 2012.
