A parliamentary standing committee on information technology has called for a paradigm shift in policies, including a flexible duty and tax structure, a hassle-free environment for manufacturing, and proper infrastructure, to promote hardware manufacturing in the country.
The committee said the domestic hardware manufacturing industry had lost out to the South-East Asian nations, and the policy environment was not conducive to the manufacture of significant components, such as the motherboard.
